Single-Tooth Implants Provide Permanent Support for Crowns

A single missing tooth can have a significant impact on a patient’s smile and overall dental health. While traditional dental crowns and bridges can help to restore the appearance and function of a damaged smile, they cannot prevent the bone degeneration that naturally occurs after tooth loss. Fortunately, Dr. Clark Damon offers a lasting and effective solution with single-tooth implants at his Amarillo, TX, practice. Dental implants have revolutionized the field of restorative dentistry by offering several unmatched benefits to a patient’s oral health and function. If you are missing a tooth, contact Texas Denture Clinic and Implant Center to schedule a visit and learn more about your candidacy for single-tooth implants.

Single Tooth Implant

Benefits of Single-tooth Implants

Traditionally, a dentist would use artificial teeth in the form of a dental bridge to fill in the gap created by tooth loss. In order to secure your bridge, the dentist would need to reshape nearby healthy teeth and place crowns on top of them. All that changed with the introduction of dental implants. Thanks to the advantages of implant dentistry, Dr. Damon can use a single-tooth implant to support a permanent crown and restore your smile without impacting nearby teeth. An implant will take the place of your missing tooth root, providing stimulating to surrounding bone and tissue, which will help to prevent jawbone atrophy and further tooth loss.

In terms of functional benefits, single-tooth implants offer unparalleled stability for crowns since they are fused directly in the jaw. As a result, patients will not face any diet restrictions or need to worry about their restoration moving, so they can eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Implant-supported restorations also offer unmatched durability. Dr. Damon proudly uses titanium implants made by Nobel Biocare™, a leading manufacturer of high-quality dental restorations. With proper care, your implants can last a lifetime. Finally, because your implant-supported crown will lie flush against your gum tissue, it will appear virtually identical to your surrounding teeth.

Evaluating Your Candidacy

During a consultation, we will use 3-D computed tomography (CT) scans to examine your jaw and evaluate your candidacy for a single-tooth implant. Candidates must have sufficient jawbone density to support traditional dental implants. For patients who do not qualify, Dr. Damon may recommend a bone grafting procedure to improve the strength of your jaw. We can also review your candidacy for mini implants.

Placing Your Implant

During implant surgery, Dr. Damon will numb the gums and surrounding area. We also offer sedation in intravenous (IV) and other forms to help keep patients at ease throughout the procedure. Dr. Damon can typically place a single implant in an hour or less. In most cases, it will take about four to six months for tissues to properly heal before the dentist can attach a permanent crown. Once in place, you can enjoy a smile with restored function and aesthetic appeal.
