Frequently Asked Questions About Complete and Partial Dentures (FAQ)

How Much Do Complete and Partial Dentures Cost?

We believe in offering affordable dentures in Amarillo. If you have been told it will cost $25,000 or $50,000 to get your teeth fixed, you are likely discouraged and looking for a more affordable dentures option.

With conventional removable dentures, you can achieve a great smile, eliminate failing teeth, and have dentures placed simultaneously as the teeth are extracted for a much lower cost than with permanent dental implants. Dentures are a more affordable option.

If you are a current denture wearer or considering immediate dentures, come by and have a consultation with Dr. Damon and staff at the Texas Implant and Dental Center in Amarillo or Dallas. We focus on serving the needs of denture wearers in the Amarillo and Dallas areas with two offices.

We get it right the first time and have honest pricing. Choose to be seen in either our Dallas or Amarillo Office. The Dallas office is located right off I-75 and Belt Line Rd, and the Amarillo office is located off Summit Ave.

What Is the Difference Between Complete and Partial Dentures?

Dentures are generally classified as either complete or partial based on their size and the number of teeth being replaced. Complete dentures are used to replace an entire dental arch when no healthy teeth remain.

A complete denture will typically feature a plastic base and artificial teeth that are custom designed to blend with the look of your natural smile and gums. Conversely, partial dentures are used to replace large gaps in a smile by blending with surrounding natural teeth. The type and cost of your denture will depend on several individualized factors.

Complete Dentures are considered replacement dentures when replacing old and worn-out dentures. They are also called Immediate Dentures when given to a patient initially when their teeth are removed.

What Are the Types of Complete Dentures?

Dr. Damon and Dr. Whittington proudly offer traditional, implant-supported, and immediate versions of complete dentures. Each provides its own unique features and benefits:

  • Traditional dentures are secured by suction and dental adhesives and are removable. These types are affordable and minimally invasive, and cost-effective.
  • Implant-supported dentures are held in place by titanium posts embedded in the jaw and designed to last for many years. These dentures offer unparalleled support and durability.
  • Immediate dentures are given the day your teeth are removed.  These restorations offer an instant improvement to a patient’s oral function and appearance.

Before finalizing your complete restoration, our in-office lab will create an identical wax version, so you can try it on to ensure an optimum fit. When creating your denture, we proudly utilize Diamond D Acrylic, widely considered one of the most lifelike restorative materials available today.

What Are the Types of Partial Dentures?

If you need to replace a number of adjacent missing teeth, Dr. Damon and his team offer several types of partial dentures:

  • Cast partial dentures: Metal frames attach to adjacent teeth to keep your denture firmly in place
  • ClearFrame® partial dentures: Similar to cast dentures, except the frames of the denture are made of discreet, clear nylon
  • Valplast® partial dentures: The world’s first flexible partial denture fits over your teeth for a very discreet look
  • Acrylic flipper dentures: Temporary flippers fill in the gaps between teeth during recovery from an extraction procedure
  • Implant-supported partial dentures: Implanted titanium posts take the place of tooth roots and provide permanent support for partial restorations

During your personal consultation, Dr. Damon or Dr. Whittington can review the different options and features to help you choose a denture that will best meet your oral health needs.

Will My Denture Need Adjustments?

We understand that a smile is your best outfit and one of your best assets. We take extra time by not cutting corners to make sure you are getting the look you want. Every patient has the opportunity to try in or view their denture in wax before we process; This ensures proper fit, proper esthetics, and happy patients.

While the teeth are set in wax, we can make adjustments. If it is not right, we adjust it right then. There have been countless times Dr. Damon has grabbed his lab technicians to come in to meet the patient and make esthetic corrections right then! We believe in a team approach that involves participation from the patient, assisting staff, Dr. Damon, and the lab technicians.

Why the Texas Implant and Dental Center?

  • Our staff is highly trained and knowledgeable when it comes to denture adjustments.
  • We have an in-house lab; therefore, we can usually make a denture in about ten days without cutting any corners.
  • Our in-house lab allows for same-day relines or repairs when the time comes.
  • We use Diamond D Acrylic, made in the USA, regarded as one of the best acrylics and hardest acrylics available.
  • On average, we are making about ten sets of dentures per week. We are the authoritative source for denture work.
  • Implants and prosthetics (denture surgery) are done in-house, so there is no need to send you out for referrals.
  • Dr. Damon is trained to provide IV Sedation for your surgery, so you are comfortable with your procedure. We have other forms of sedation available as well.
  • We offer Affordable Dentures in Amarillo and Dallas.
  • Adjustments and soft liners are included with our affordable dentures.

Immediate Dentures in Amarillo

Immediate dentures are an attractive solution to patients who are interested in a prosthesis but require tooth extraction. When the teeth are extracted, the denture will be placed immediately instead of after a long waiting period. No one wants to wear a temporary smile, which is why the immediate denture is such a good option.

Frequently Asked Questions About Immediate Dentures (FAQ)

How Do I Know If Immediate Dentures Are Right for Me?

Some of the signs or symptoms that you might need an immediate denture include:

  • Many loose teeth
  • Severe Bad breath
  • Multiple broken teeth
  • Multiple missing teeth.
  • Multiple failing teeth

How Do Immediate Dentures Work?

Immediate Dentures are a solution for patients who have unrestorable teeth due to chronic periodontal disease or tooth decay. This is the first step into getting into dentures. First, the teeth must be pulled, and dentures are given immediately after. Many years ago, patients would have their teeth pulled and left to heal without any dentures for 4-6 months! Today things have changed, and Immediate Dentures are the standard to give to patients after teeth are pulled.

With all of our immediate dentures, we include three sets of soft liners. We will place the soft liners about every month to accommodate where the tissue rests after surgery, and we will perform adjustments as needed. This way, you have a good fit during the healing process. Many other offices do not do this, and soft liners are an essential step in having a denture that fits adequately during the healing process.

What Are the Benefits Of Immediate Dentures?

Immediate Dentures offer patients many benefits:

  • Immediate Insertion – when the teeth are removed, the dentures are placed immediately. They also serve as a bandage to help apply pressure to the surgical site to help stop the bleeding.
  • Immediate Results – You never have to go without teeth. An immediate denture gives you a fantastic quick smile makeover.
  • Affordable – dentures are more affordable when compared to permanent dental implants.

How Does the Process Work?

The first step is the consultation and x-ray. Our office is located in Amarillo, TX, and we serve patients in the entire Texas Panhandle and beyond. Dr. Gordon Clark Damon or Dr. Whittongton will evaluate your teeth, determine the need for the treatment, and discuss expectations and options. All patients seeking immediate dentures are educated on what to expect, as well as options when it comes to dental implants.

After the consultation, Alginate impressions are then made. This is to capture the mold of your teeth and jaws so our laboratory technicians can create your dentures. Many patients will need a second appointment called a “Wax Rim appointment” so we can mount the case appropriately.

The last appointment before surgery is the wax viewing or wax try-in – here, you will get to either try in or view the teeth prior to surgery. The teeth are set in wax, so you can modify them if you wish. The viewing is important, so you get more comfortable with our office, you get to see your teeth, and make any changes if desired.

The immediate dentures are delivered during surgery when the teeth are removed. 99% of the time, surgery is under IV Sedation. IV sedation allows you to feel comfortable and relaxed in knowing you won’t remember or feel anything during the procedure. This is good for not only the patient but for the specialist. We will place soft liners in your new immediate dentures at the time of surgery, along with sutures.

What Can I Expect After Immediate Dentures Are Placed?

Simply put – there is some getting used to your new dentures. The first few weeks are not easy. During the first 24 hours- leave them in the whole time. They will be loose; you will have to bite down to re-seal the dentures if they fall out. During the first week, as the swelling goes down, the dentures will sit lower and may become uncomfortable. We will see you for your post-op appointments, and there will make any adjustments needed and place another new soft liner.

What Are Soft Liners?

In my opinion, soft liners are very crucial to the new denture wearer. Many places don’t do them. They are an easy way to provide a decent fit while patients are healing, and they are soft (kind of) so that they are more tolerable to wear for a new denture wearer. Soft liners last for 45 days, and you will need to make an appointment to get them changed out. Typically patients are in soft liners for 4 – 6 months, when we will perform your final re-bases.

What Is A Rebase?

Our preference to finalize your dentures is for a rebase! This is a 24-hour process where the old pink acrylic is removed, leaving the denture teeth in place; we then process heat-cured acrylic. This way, you don’t have to buy another denture. We use the set you already have purchased, and the denture is a strong, long-lasting one.

What Is the Cost of Immediate Dentures?

At Texas Implant and Dental Center, we pride ourselves on providing personalized care and fully customized dentures that can restore your bite and your confidence in your smile.

Each patient’s dentures and restorative treatment plan is unique, meaning cost varies on a case-by-case basis. Some patients might need a simple replacement, some may need teeth removed, and some may need dental implants.

Our immediate dentures start at $895 an arch, and they do not include extractions or other items needed. Dr. Clark Damon, Dr. Jordan Whittington, and Dr. MJ Secola can help you understand your options and the cost of dentures when you visit one of our dental implant offices in Amarillo or Dallas.

Luckily, we do have an in-house lab, where we can fabricate your prosthesis reasonably quickly, but we make them the traditional way, which requires four steps:

  1. Impressions,
  2. Wax Rims,
  3. Wax Try in,
  4. and Delivery.

Having an in-house lab assures you get the best product, and you get to approve the wax set up. You are in control of the process. We offer outstanding dentures and will work with you to place the cost of your dentures comfortably within your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions About Broken Dentures (FAQ)

Does My Denture Need Repairing?

Dr. Damon recommends that patients with removable dentures have them relined every two years and replaced after eight years. This recommendation does not apply to patients with implant-supported dentures, which do not require relining and are designed to last significantly longer than traditional types.

Even if you take great care of your dentures, they will still experience natural wear and tear with normal use. As time passes, your prosthesis can develop different forms of damage, such as a cracked artificial tooth or a fractured denture base. Additionally, when a person experiences tooth loss, the surrounding area of the jawbone will begin to lose density, affecting the fit of your denture and compromising its strength.

When these issues go uncorrected, your weakened denture can actually begin to impact your oral health negatively. Regardless of how the damage was caused, Dr. Damon and his skilled staff can help your partial or complete denture look and feel like new.

How Do Dentures Break?

There are typically two types of denture breakages – denture tooth breakage/teeth coming off the denture or the denture breaking in half. In either scenario, the denture may be able to be repaired.

Please note: do not try to fix a cracked denture yourself. If you try to glue the denture back together and you do not get it 100% precise, then you have guaranteed that you just eliminated any chance of getting that denture repaired. We can fix broken dentures Monday – Thursday. There is no emergency denture repair available.

Why Do Dentures Break?

Many factors can contribute to a denture break; however, the most common reason for this problem is time. Over time, bone resorption or atrophy occurs. This causes the supporting tissues to have a small gap between the denture and the gums.

When you received your dentures, your dentist likely told you that they typically require relining every 2 – 3 years. After 5 – 7 years, they will need to be replaced altogether. Did you know your dentures are involved in 1,200,000 million chewing cycles every year? It’s no wonder they require upkeep.

How Long Does It Take To Repair Broken Dentures?

For a simple break, like repairing a denture tooth, denture repairs can take about one hour. If the denture is cracked, it may take up to four hours. You’ll find this to be an extremely short turn-around time if you have ever had a denture repaired with another dental practice. Most other dentists do not have an in-house lab – in which case, it may take days, even up to a week or more, to have your dentures repaired.

What Is the Process?

Firstly you will need to call us for a consultation. At your consultation, Dr. Damon or Dr. Whittington will determine if your broken denture can be fixed and, if so – how. In most cases, we need to take a reline impression for either a reline or a rebase.

Once we have the impression, we grind down the damaged areas and then add acrylic to fix them. After, the repaired areas are cured, trimmed, polished, cleaned, and returned to you.

Implant-Supported Dentures in Amarillo

If you are experiencing any of the following, it may be time to consider implant-supported dentures:

  • You have an existing set of dentures that is loose
  • You need immediate dentures but are desiring the hope of a more modern option
  • You are tired of dental adhesives
  • You are not wearing your existing set of dentures due to maintenance frustration.

Traditional dentures can be uncomfortable and slide out of place while eating or speaking, among many other things. We can help with technologically advanced implant-supported dentures, also known as snap-on dentures. Implant-supported dentures are anchored to the jaw for outstanding stability. They eliminate nearly all of the cons that you experience with traditional dentures.

Why Implant-Supported Dentures?

If you want to eat what you want, feel secure about your smile, and enhance your quality of life, implant-supported dentures are the ideal option. Implant dentures, snap-on dentures, or dental implants for dentures are an excellent alternative for patients who are losing or missing teeth in one or both arches. Dental Implants can help maintain the bone in the jaws and improve your ability to chew. It also plays a vital role in securing a removable denture in the mouth.

Implant Dentures – The Clear Choice

implant supported dentures in Amarillo

With over 40 years of extensive clinical research and a high success rate, the use of denture implants as a preferred alternative to standard conventional dentures is very common.

Our patients who have elected implants to secure their dentures are more confident, have a better ability to chew the foods they want and feel happier about themselves.

Dental implants feel like natural teeth compared to regular dentures; they give you security and eliminate slippage. In addition, implant dentures feel more stable and secure.

Why Implant Dentures at Texas Implant and Dental Center?

All implants placed at Texas Implant and Dental Center are made from high-quality materials and crafted using the latest techniques available. We pride ourselves on the quality of care and materials that we offer our patients. We use Nobel Biocare – Nobel Active Implant. It is the #1 implant system on the market and is the most used by specialists. It is a premium dental implant as not all implants are created equal.

Texas Implant and Dental Center’s Unique Implant Procedure

Every patient at Texas Implant and Dental Center undergoes a detailed evaluation of their medical history, bone levels, and existing teeth. This enables Dr. Damon to develop an implant procedure that suits that particular patient.

Additionally, Dr. Damons’ two offices – Richardson, TX and Amarillo, TX also use high-tech imaging materials such as the latest 3D CT from iCAT. This is an integrated imaging device used in our patient assessment and implant treatment procedure.

This imaging device enables our staff to see different dimensional images of a patient’s existing teeth and jaw. It also helps us to determine what implant will be best for a particular patient. We can also accurately determine the perfect placement of a denture implant with this device. At the same time, we can identify the areas that need additional bone support to achieve excellent results.

What Are The Benefits of Implant Dentures?

Preserve Bone Levels

Losing teeth can cause bone deterioration in a short amount of time due to a lack of bone stimulation. With implanted dentures, the bone level around the implants is preserved. At the same time, this provides a secure, long-lasting foundation for implant dentures simulating healthy teeth.

Looks, Feels, and Functions More Like Real Teeth

Since they are securely anchored deep in the jaw, implants have much better performance than traditional removable dentures. Implant-supported dentures increase a person’s biting force and enable them to eat food like when they had their natural teeth. Finally, it allows them to once again smile with comfort and confidence.

Help Maintain Facial Structure Integrity

Implants help keep facial structures intact because they prevent bone deterioration that typically happens with missing teeth. The stability is very important for people who have multiple missing teeth because their facial profile could collapse due to steady bone deterioration.
